Imagine yourself in a world filled with brilliantly strange and fantastical things, where every sound is ear shatteringly new and every sight is mind blowing unfamiliar! In this world the people live in there thousands and buildings seem to be as far as the eye can see. High-speed metallic objects that people can actually sit inside even when it’s moving busily control the streets. Cultures from around the world add their own particular spice to the numeral assortments of food on offer. Each and every person is dressed in colourful and elaborate outfits much like in the circus. This is how H.D. Archibald experiences the world today. Television, radio, print and the INTERNET have all drastically changed and they have all had a huge affect on journalism and the media, which is very concerning to H.D. Archibald as he was a avid journalist in the early 20th century. HD is very particular and subjective views about the media and how it operates today, especially when comparing attitudes from today with those from HD’s by gone era. As HD’s opinionated persona it is my job to construct debates and opinions concerning everyday life and how to deal with it as well as views about the media and how it operates today. To conclude as HD’s opinionated persona (an opinion set in the “stone age”) it is my duty to ensure that these crazy new ideas about the media are resolved and understood by constructing opinions and ideologies. Hopefully my posts will stimulate some sort of debate and provoke some sort of response that is equally opinionated. Here is a list of questions about life that I will be discussing in this blog:
• Why is it that male guests need to be signed into female residences and not the other way around? • Why are all the clocks in Grahamstown different? • Why is it that whenever some sort of fantastic technology is used during a lecture, for example a computer used to play a video clip, is the person in charge (the lecturer) never able to operate the system on his or her own? • If HD Archibald could be seen, what would he look like?
"Welcome to the world of H.D. Archibald a ghost who used to be a Journalism and Media Studies student at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. H.D. is now learning about new technologies and the impact that these are having on Journalism and the Media and is here to bring you different view points and debates on current issues that are pertinent in the live of budding Journalists"
